Phos & the untold
In the new project "Phos and the untold," I explore the transformative power of light, or phos in Greek, as a force of healing and renewal. This autobiographical photographic series emerged from a personal journey through a dark period in my life, where I learned that light is not merely an element of visibility but a profound symbol of hope. Light, in this context, became a metaphor for strength, a reminder of the potential to rebuild and create a new world from fractured pieces. In the words of artist Björk, after trauma, we must “dig a cave into the future” and demand space for hope. My photography embodies this act of creating space, a carving out of beauty and transformation from the depths of shadow. Through abstract and symbolic compositions, my work examines the delicate tension between the visible and the unseen. Each image conveys an untold story: hidden emotions, fleeting memories, or traces of past presences that linger in the folds of light and shadow. By capturing reflections, I reveal “double worlds”—an imagined layer atop the physical—inviting viewers into an interplay of reality and the subconscious. Shadows in my work are not mere absences; they are quiet witnesses, casting imprints of spaces and objects, suggesting that even in darkness, a trace of light remains. Being an optimistic person, I have deliberately chosen not to show total blacks in my photos. My aim is to lead the viewer to the light. The light that we all carry within us. "Phos and the untold" is more than a collection of photographs; it is an assertion of determination and the beauty of transformation. In demanding space for light, I shape a world where beauty, endurance, and hope coexist, reminding us that every shadow contains within it the possibility of illumination.
